Let’s review putting on the full armor of God in dealing with the day to day psychological, emotional battle of the mind in order to bring into captivity strongholds in the mind.
Let’s talk about it.
The mind is an invisible power box to how we perceive, handle and process day to day life situations. The mind is not a tangible organ in the body; yet it stores our history. It stores our negative and positive life occurrences. The mind will tell that forty-year-old person who was told at the age of fifteen; “they were a failure and would always be a failure; that they cannot successfully accomplish starting and operating their own business.” Therefore, this same forty-year-old person might have a dream to start their own business, but not the courage and belief in self, in starting the business. On the flip side; a twenty-five-year-old person has a successful career as a top model. This person, as a baby, was nick named “pretty girl;” and was always referred to as the pretty girl with the hazel color eyes growing up. Therefore, in the storage of this person’s mind is words of accolades in self-image; which leads to this person becoming a top model. As you can see, in these two scenarios, unbeknown to the person, the stored history in their mind was used in how they navigated in life based on their perception of self. For this reason; our warfare; our battle is not carnal but is of the mind.
In 2nd Corinthians 10:3-5; it is written, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalt itself against the knowledge of God; and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
In Ephesians 6:10-18; it is written, “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore, take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all to stand (meaning you must fight against the negative dark thoughts of the mind for your life). Stand therefore having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness (which is God in your heart). And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.”
Many of us know, this battle of the mind is real. What helps me, is meditating on who is God. God is a powerful energy of light and love, who created heaven and earth with only a spoken word. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In Genesis, God simply said “Let there be,” the heaven and the earth was formed. There is no greater power then God’s power. As I look around the earth and see the beauty and power of God’s creation, and to know that this one and only God, loves me and created me, fills my heart with gratefulness. I am especially grateful for the breath of life God breathed into my nostrils as he made me a living soul. I do not take this for granted. God has equipped us with his Word in helping us fight against the wiles of the devil. We cannot wait until the devil attacks us to prepare ourselves for the battle. We must be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might, by putting on the whole armor of God and wearing it daily. Because I know the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalt itself against the knowledge of God; as I go into battle against negative thoughts of the mind, I start with countering these thoughts by listening to gospel music. As I listen to gospel music, I praise God for the power of his Word, his love, his protection. I praise him for victory. I picture myself touching the hem of his garment as I dance like David dance in victory.
For all who is having a battle of the mind, I pray that you be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Please fight the good fight of faith using the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit. Please know that you are made in the image of power. God made you in his image. Please do not let the devil lie to you as he whispers something different in your thoughts. It is written in James 4:7 “submit yourself to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Blocking the devil out of your thoughts as you listen to gospel music, and think about the power of God in his Word is resisting the devil.
